As of yesterday I have read my 100th book for the year. I was aiming for 50... I went a little higher. Because of this I decided I'd share my top 10 best reads for the year. They're in no particular order because I don't like ordering items like books into a numbered order (which sounds weird even for me), they're the 10 best books I've read is all.
I Am Legend - Richard Matheson (go here for my opinion)
1984 - George Orwell (for obvious reasons... my opinion)
The Time Machine - H.G Wells
This is what I like to call a dip into thinking hu(man's) literature because it's so short but at the same time it's in depth enough to get one thinking
Ask And It Is Given - Esther and Jerry Hicks
A good book for spiritualists or people who have an interest in Law of Attraction but don't really understand it yet. Basically a good intro book (another good read for that subject is Power, Freedom & Grace by Deepak Chopra which touches more on physics).
The Twilight Saga - Stephenie Meyer
I had to include it, I just had to. This was a very surprising read for me as I'm anti girly, hate chick lit and don't agree with the whole romantic vampire thing, but I enjoyed it immensely even to the point where I have read it more then once - in one year - seen the movie and bought extra merch that is related to it. Yet, even now with admitting I like it and recently seeing the movie (see it for the sake of having a good laugh) I'm still embarrassed about it to the point that I cringe inwardly when discussing it. Also for all my fandom when it comes to this series I still pay it out and appreciate others taking the piss out of it (eg the Twilight Spoof Trailer Haha the candy bar & the sliding door) - all in good fun of course. For some of my opinions - Twilight, New Moon & Breaking Dawn
The Painted Man - Peter V Brett
I read this around the time when I started writing my novel or perhaps just before (my time perception is stuffed up) and knew it was the first published novel of this author so I paid attention while also enjoying it. I think this is a really well written first novel and is worth the read. Plus it does help that the author is a really nice bloke too. My opinion
The Host - Stephenie Meyer
This for me was the book that showed Stephenie Meyer wasn't only writing on a whim but that she actually had some talent. The adult book and a nice detailed change to her Twilight Saga. My opinion
The Devil's Dictionary - Ambrose Bierce
Previously known as the Cynic's Word Book, this is a great dictionary to read. Sure it is set out like a dictionary but I don't really think it reads as such. It's classic literature created to take the piss out of almost everything. Main subjects are society and religion which is probably why I love it in the first place because I'm an atheist, anti conformist who is also misanthropic. If you feel like something alternative, humorous and intellectual then I recommend picking it up.
Rock 'n' Roll Babes From Out of Space - Linda Jaivin
Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious especially if you have a mind that's in the gutter, are Aussie (has a lot of Aussie lingo so if you're from outside of Oz you might not get a lot of it) and are a bit on the alternative side. I loved it also because I loved the 90's which is when it was set. I was born in the early 80's but I loved the 90's (makes sense because that's when I hit my teens and started becoming independent). This book, although focused on aliens, is all about the subculture of the 90's (even better because I hung out in Newtown), but enough of that. You can read this for my opinions.
And Last but far from least
The Name of The Wind - Patrick Rothfuss
If you haven't read it yet go and buy it now. It's a great read, great first novel by the author and is so well written. It's one of my absolute favourites for the year (in the top 5). My opinion
One's I didn't include but wanted to, including series....
The Beauty Books by Anne Rice.
Read them before and love em but they are out there if you're vanilla so be warned.
My opinions - Book 1, Book 2 & I didn't do one for book 3...
The Morgainville Vampires by Rachel Caine
It has plot holes and stops abruptly with a serious cliff hanger with each book but it is one entertaining read! Listed as Paranormal Romance but it's not soppy (thank the fairies) it's more action and intrigue with a touch of lovey dovey which doesn't make you want to run to the bathroom and throw up your last meal (I really don't like romance, can you tell?)
Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
I love eccentric characters and this book is full of them, dead and living.
1984 - George Orwell (for obvious reasons... my opinion)
The Time Machine - H.G Wells

I'd include more but then I might as well list the majority of books I've read throughout the year... That's too many.
